Brazilian outlet Globo claims the West Londoners are set to fork out €20 million (£17.5m) to sign Santos.

When will Santos join Chelsea?

Globo reports that the midfielder is due to travel to London to undergo a medical before he pens a contract with Chelsea.

The development comes just weeks after Santos signed a contract extension with Vasco Da Gama, which keeps him tied to the club until 2027 and pushed his release clause to €50million.

While the youngster is yet to break into the Brazilian senior team, he has already represented the South American country in the youth teams.

Chelsea was pushed into the market for reinforcements in the midfield, with both Jorginho and N'Golo Kante facing uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge.

The pair's contract is set to expire in the summer and Kante has already been linked with a move to Barcelona.

Chelsea won't panic buy in January

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chelsea won't panic in the winter market despite having Pierre Emerick Aubameyang as the only recognized striker.

The Blues were first reported to want to push Nkunku's transfer to January but with an injury of his own, it makes no sense bringing him to the club early.

Graham Potter will have to compete for the rest of the season with limited options with Chelsea still active in the FA Cup and the Champions League.
