Ex-Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer at the World Cup, after Portugal suffered elimination against Morocco in the quarter-finals.

But that is not stopping the five-time Ballon d'Or winner from having an interest in who wins this year's tournament in Qatar on Sunday.

Argentina and France are scheduled to lock horns in the final of the 2022 World Cup at the Lusail Stadium, with both teams eyeing glory.

Who is Cristiano Ronaldo supporting?

Many fans and followers of the game are wondering who Ronaldo will back to win the Mundial.

Although it would be logical that the legendary Real Madrid forward would support France, due to his rivalry with Argentina captain Lionel Messi, Spanish outlet Marca reported the veteran striker may throw his weight behind La Albiceleste instead.

This is reportedly due to his partner, Georgina Rodriguez. She has Argentine citizenship, so it is logical the Portuguese star has great regard for the South American country.

"My girlfriend is Argentinian. Many people don't know that she is half Argentine and half Spanish. I love Argentina, a lot of people think I don't, but I like Argentina a lot," he explained as quoted by Marca.

Supercomputer predicts World Cup winner

A supercomputer made its prediction on who will win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Sports Brief earlier reported.

According to technology at FiveThirty's SPI, as cited by ESPN, Lionel Scaloni's men have a 53% chance of winning the tournament for the first time since 1986.

France on the other hand, have a 47% chance of successfully defending the crown under the tutelage of Didier Deschamps.

Matthaus tags Ronaldo 'A big failure'

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has been criticized for his performances at the just-concluded global showpiece in Qatar by Lothar Matthaus.

The football icon expressed his views on the former Manchester United play and Argentina captain Lionel Messi at World Cup 2022.

While Messi led the South America to the title, it was the other way around for Ronaldo as he was benched in Portugal’s defeat to Morocco.

"With his ego trips, Ronaldo has damaged the team and himself. There is no doubt that he was a great player and an absolutely lethal finisher. But now he has damaged his legacy. I find it hard to think that he can find a place in a team. I kind of feel sorry for Ronaldo," Matthaus told Bild.
"Ronaldo is of course a big failure of the World Cup, the opposite of Messi. [Messi is] the absolute winner. He deserves it because he has given me and all football fans great joy with his qualities and the way he plays over 17-18 years. For me, Messi is the player of the millennium."
