  • France stands in the way of Lionel Messi realizing a lifelong dream of winning the FIFA World Cup
  • Messi's Argentina will look to avenge their round of 16 defeat to France in Sunday's blockbuster final
  • Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud and his France team-mates are not planning to make it easy for the Argentina maestro

Olivier Giroud is upbeat ahead of Sunday's World Cup final between defending champions France and tournament favourites Argentina.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea striker, who has bagged four goals so far in the Mundial, is bent on ruining Lionel Messi’s dream of a World Cup fairytale.

Messi disclosed he would bring the curtains to his World Cup campaign down in the blockbuster final against France, however, Giroud revealed he is not in the mood to grant the Argentine maestro his last wish.

“Messi is an incredible player, but we are not going to let him enjoy the best night he can have. We want to win this game. We want to win another World Cup," Giroud said as quoted by Mirror.

He continued: “We will try everything to stop him. But there is not only Messi in that team. They have got great players who work for the team also. I think that is why they are so strong.”

What happened when France met Argentina in 2018?

France dumped Argentina out of the last World Cup at the last 16 stage in a pulsating seven-goal thriller, eventually proceeding to the finals to win their second world title, BBC reports.

Hernandez unfazed by Messi danger

Ahead of the final 2022 FIFA World Cup final, France star Theo Hernandez has boasted that Les Blues are not scared of Lionel Messi.

The Lusail Iconic Stadium in Qatar will witness history as Argentina take on defending champions in the FIFA World Cup final.

But Hernandez has stated that Messi does not scare the French team. The Bayern Munich full-back told RAI Sport via SPORTbible.

Guardiola picks World Cup winner

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has a special love for Lionel Messi and does not hide it.

It has shown many times in his speeches, even after he was no longer coaching the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Julian Alvarez, an international teammate of Messi in Argentina, plays for Guardiola at Manchester City and is another player for whom the Spaniard has a special affection - just like his compatriot.
