Former Ghana and Chelsea star has jokingly stated that he is the only former player among his peers that can still play professional football.

Most of Essien's teammates have put on massive weight following their retirement from the game.

In a question and answer with FIFA, Essien picked his best players at the World Cup in Qatar ahead of the final between France and Argentina.

The assistant manager of Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland picked Argentina's Emiliano Martinez as the best goalkeeper at the World Cup, with compatriot Messi the most skillful at the tournament.

England duo Kyle Walker and Jude Bellingham were Essien's best right-back and midfielder respectively.

However, Essien gave a funny response when asked about his former teammate who could still play professional football.

“With the guys I’m seeing now, I think I’m the only one who can still play,” the former Chelsea and Real Madrid star joked.

Essien is honing his career as coach after taking baby steps at FC Nordsjaelland, where he has been guiding the young players into professional athletes.

The ex-Ghana midfielder enjoyed a successful career, winning several titles at Chelsea including the UEFA Champions League.

Essien meets Otto Addo

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars coach Otto Addo has travelled to Denmark to monitor Ghanaian players in the Super Liga ahead of the announcement of his squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

During his visit of the Scandinavian country, the 47-year-old met his former teammate Michael Essien.

Essien works with Danish topflight side FC Nordsjaelland as assistant coach since hanging his boots.

Essien sympathizes with Indonesia

Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has sent his condolences to the people of Indonesia after the tragic events of Saturday left many dead at the end of a football game.

Over 127 people have been reported deal while over 200 fans have suffered various degrees of injuries.

Essien, who played in Indonesia during the twilight of his career, took to social media to express his pain following the news of the stampede.
