World Cup 2022: The truth behind Mbappe's absence from France training
FootballRooney deals Cristiano another blow with bold GOAT declaration
- Wayne Rooney was teammates with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United for six years
- The pair has fallen out since, with Ronaldo saying he did not understand Rooney’s criticism
- Rooney’s stance on who he considers the greatest footballer of all time remains unchanged
DC United manager Wayne Rooney recently shared an interesting tweet on Wednesday, December 14, amid the re-ignition of the debate on the greatest player of all time.
At the moment, the debate seems to have swayed heavily to Lionel Messi’s side, after the Argentine’s heroics for his nation in the World Cup semi-final against Croatia.
Messi scored from the penalty spot and came up with an assist, as Argentina emerged 3-0 victors to set up a final showdown against France.
Messi's goal involvement for Argentina so far in Qatar sits at four times scored and two assists, which is exemplary considering the fact that he is in the twilight days of his football career.

On social media, Rooney decided to prove to fans that he never changed his stance on the so-called ‘GOAT’, as he retweeted his own post from 2012.
In 2012, he tweeted:
"Messi is a joke. For me the best ever” and on Wednesday, he shared the same message with the caption: “Nothing has changed."
Rooney, Manchester United’s all-time top goal scorer, has experienced Messi’s brilliance firsthand, as he was part of the team that was destroyed by Barcelona in the Champions League final of 2011, when the Catalan giants won 3-1.
At the time, Rooney scored an equaliser for United, but Messi and his wards completely blew away Sir Alex Ferguson’s side for Pep Guardiola’s second UCL title in three years.
