England may not have brought home the World Cup, but they will be bringing home a cat.

The English team befriended Dave the Cat during their time in Qatar and promised to bring him back to the UK if they won the tournament.

Despite being knocked out in the quarter-finals, they've decided to make good on their promise.

How did England meet Dave?

Manchester City star John Stones explained that they first met Dave when they arrived at the hotel, BBC reported. The team fed the cat and he started to show up every night for food, eventually becoming the team's unofficial mascot.

Not everyone likes Dave

Kyle Walker and Stones are Dave's biggest fans, but not everyone in the team was keen on the cat.

"Some people really don't like the cat, but I love him," Walker admitted.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka is rumoured to be one of the players who was hesitant around the feline.

A warm welcome for Dave

Dave not only stole the hearts of the English squad, he also caught the attention of Larry. Larry is Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office of the United Kingdom.

He resides at 10 Downing Street since 2011 but does not belong to the Prime Minister. He is instead cared for by the Downing Street staff.

Larry used his Twitter account to welcome Dave to the UK.

Cat thrown out of presser

Vinicius Junior's press conference took a bizarre turn, when Brazil's media manager literally threw a cat out of the room, Sports Brief reported.

Vinicius Jr and Brazil were preparing for their mouth-watering 2022 World Cup quarter-final showdown against Croatia, and the team's media manager did not want the cat to take centre stage.

As the press conference was about to start, a stray cat found itself on the table where microphones and recorders were placed.
