Former Spain coach Fernando Hierro has snubbed Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo while naming his six standout players so far at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Qatar tournament has reached the semifinal where Croatia, Argentina, France and Morocco have made it to the last four of the prestigious tournament.

Morocco have been making the headlines since they defeated Portugal in the quarterfinal and became the first African side to reach the last 4 of the World Cup.

Hierro's 6 standout players

The 54-year-old picked Kylian Mbappe as the best striker at the World Cup, while choosing Belgian goalie Thibaut Courtois as the best stopper according to a video posted by FIFA on Twitter.

Jordi Alba was rated as the best full-back, while Pedri was considered as the finest passer in Qatar.

Brazil international Neymar was named as the most skillful player at the World Cup while the best defender picked by Hierro is Thiago Silva.

France Star consoles Rashford

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Kylian Mbappe left Marcus Rashford a consoling post, following England's elimination from the World Cup in Qatar.

France beat England 2-1 at the Al Bayt Stadium to knock out the Three Lions and keep alive their hopes of retaining a title they won in 2018.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud got the goals for the defending champions, as Harry Kane scored the consolation goal from the penalty spot. The England skipper missed another decisive penalty which would have levelled things up for his side.

Rashford, like any other England player, was devastated by the elimination. The Manchester United forward was introduced in the 85th minute for Phil Foden. He has been in glittering form in Qatar with three goals to his name before their exit.
