- Weghorst thought he would be the Dutch hero but Louis Van Gaal's side were beaten on post-match penalties
The Argentina game vs the Netherlands will rank very highly in the list of World Cup matches that were highly tempered.
A total of 16 yellow cards were issued with one late red card to Denzel Dumfries by match referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz.
Former Argentina striker Sergio Aguero was at the Lusail Stadium to support his side. He was part of the crowd that watched Argentina race to a 2-0 lead courtesy of Nahuel Molina and Lionel Messi's goals.
Wout Weghorst however came off the bench to restore parity with two wonderfully taken goals, forcing the game to extra time.

Penalty shootouts
Emiliano Martinez came up grand for the Albiceleste saving two penalties to ensure Messi's side set up a semifinal showdown against Croatia.
After the game, there was another incident with both sets of players taunting each other. Messi was also seen approaching Louis Van Gaal and mouthing a few words to him.
New footage shows Aguero getting involved with Weghorst as both teams retreated to the dressing room. Daily Mail reports that Lisandro Martinez and Lautaro Martinez intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Aguero later went on a Twitter rampage asking the Netherlands players to go and play FIFA. The Manchester City legend was forced to retire last season due to a heart condition but his soul and mind are clearly still in the game.

FootballArgentina's savage celebrations
Sports Brief had earlier reported that Argentina players savagely mocked their Netherlands counterparts after winning a tempestuous World Cup tie at the Lusail Stadium.
The match-up was far from a flowing game with tackles, yellow cards and constant breaks in play punctuating the game.
Argentina had raced to a 2-0 lead only for Wout Weghorst to come off the bench and score a quickfire brace and force the game into post-match penalties. The game had earlier witnessed an ugly scene when Leandro Paredes booted the ball towards the technical area of the Dutch. Both sides jumped onto the pitch with the centre referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz having a hard time controlling the situation.
