Gareth Southgate has just the perfect plan to prevent Kylian Mbappe from playing at his best when England take on France in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals.

The plan to stop Mbappe has been prepared for the last two years and could require Phil Foden to start on England’s right-hand side or Southgate could opt for the pace of Marcus Rashford instead.

Mbappe is currently the top scorer at the 2022 FIFA World Cup having scored 5 goals prior to France’s quarterfinal clash against England.

FA wants Southgate to stay on beyond World Cup

Meanwhile, The FA will look to persuade Gareth Southgate not to step down from his role as England manager after the World Cup, Tribal Football reports.

Southgate has reportedly impressed those in charge of English football, and they want his tenure to continue irrespective of how the Three Lions 2022 World Cup campaign ends.

Southgate is currently preparing The Three Lions for their quarterfinal clash against defending champions France as England seek a consecutive World Cup semifinal slot.

England braced for biggest test against France

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Gareth Southgate admits England will face the "biggest test" of their World Cup ambitions when they face holders France in a blockbuster quarter-final on Saturday.

Southgate's side recovered from a nervous start before powering to a 3-0 win against Senegal in Sunday's last 16 clash at the Al Bayt Stadium.

England will return to the Al Khor desert at the weekend for a titanic showdown with a France side looking to become the first team to win successive World Cups since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.
