Mexico midfielder Luis Chavez is not hiding his frustration at former boss Gerardo Martino, over the Argentine's unclear tactics which led to their elimination.

El Tri were knocked out of the World Cup despite a spirited 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia. Poland qualified ahead of Mexico on goal difference, despite losing 2-0 to Argentina.

Chavez said that the issues began in the loss against Argentina, when Martino instructed them to defend but no goal scoring opportunities were being created.

Mexico will now look toward the future, after Martino confirmed his job with the North Americans ended the moment the final whistle blew.

Chavez speaks on Martino's coaching

Martino being an Argentine raised questions over his commitment before the game against Argentina. Chavez has now added more heat to these claims in an interview, as quoted by GWFN:

''In the second game [with Argentina], we didn’t understand what he wanted us to do. We defended well for a period of time, but we did not create any chances - so goals could not be scored and we ended up losing that game.''

Chavez also blamed the whole team for not doing enough and reacting too late in the games against Poland and Argentina.

''Personally, I feel very sad. We stopped doing a lot of things in the first two games and we reacted a little too late. We hoped to be able to qualify, but in the end, we didn’t make it. I’m leaving [Qatar] very down about it.''

Whistle marks Martino's Mexico exit

Sports Brief earlier reported on Martino saying his job with Mexico ended with the final whistle. He became the first manager to leave his role at the World Cup.

Martino was in charge of El Tri for almost four years. He was appointed in January 2019 and helped the team win the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Mexico are yet to announce the appointment of a new manager for the national side. Martino will also take time decide on his next line of action.
