What is the record?

According to the report by ESPN, Messi has never been eliminated in the group stages of a tournament in his entire career, for both club and country.

The former Barcelona captain has had a glorious career in football, winning lots of titles even though the World Cup is still missing from his cabinet.

As things stand now, Messi will hope to continue his impressive performance at the World Cup when Argentina face Australia in the round of 16.

When is the encounter?

Argentina and Australia will go head to head on Saturday, December 3, in a tie that is expected to be a challenging one.

Messi snubs Lewandowski’s apology

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Lionel Messi appeared to ignore the outstretched arm of Robert Lewandowski during Argentina's clash against Poland.

The centre referee blew the whistle after Lewandowski had fouled Messi, towards the tail end of the last Group C fixture at Stadium 974.

Lewandowski, in the spirit of good sportsmanship, reached out to Messi as if to offer an apology, but the Argentina talisman started straight ahead and ignored the Polish captain's hand.

The two seemed to have patched up their differences after the final whistle, as they shared an affectionate moment together.
