- Duke had just scored the World Cup's landmark 50th goal just a few minutes earlier
Australia's Mitchell Duke and Tunisia's Hannibal Mejbri were the main story of the first half of the crucial 2022 FIFA World Cup Group D match.
The duo were involved in a tiff in what proved to be an exciting first half at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah. Mejbri, on the bench as a substitute, had angrily thrown the ball in Duke's direction after the latter had been fouled.
The ball hit Duke as he lay on the floor. He got up to go and confront the promising Manchester United youngster, who does have a reputation for 'possessing' a short fuse. Before matters got out of control, the referee stepped in, encouraging both players to shake hands.
They then met again after the halftime whistle had been blown, embracing and laughing off the incident. Incidentally, Duke had scored the landmark 50th goal in the 23rd minute of the game.
