Williams' mother visited her son at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Doha, as the Black Stars round off preparations for their opener.

She urged her son to make a significant impact in the game, in what will be his fourth appearance for the Ghana national team.

“I am supporting him to score goals, but I have also told him to pass the ball to another player if he can’t score. He shouldn’t be selfish” she said.

Why Inaki Williams chose Ghana

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Inaki Williams has finally explained why he chose to play for the Black Stars of Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, revealing his grandfather had convinced him.

The 28-year-old, who plays for La Liga club Athletic Bilbao, will hope to make Africa proud at the prestigious competition.

En route to the World Cup, Ghana dismissed the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the play-offs and got the ticket to Qatar.

Williams made grandfather a promise

Inaki Williams has disclosed that his 90-year-old grandfather promised he would die in peace, the day he saw him wearing the Black Stars jersey and playing for Ghana.

The Athletic Bilbao forward decided to play for Ghana in June after switching allegiance from Spain, having made one senior cap for the European country.

Inaki made his Ghana debut in the friendly against Brazil, before following that up with another appearance against Nicaragua.
