German international, Jamal Musiala feels honoured to be compared to one of football’s greatest players, Lionel Messi as the 19-year-old shows his admiration for the Argentina captain.
Musiala is set to feature in his first World Cup after being enlisted in Hansi Flick’s 26-man squad for Qatar 2022 while Messi has revealed the 2022 World Cup might be his last after 4 previous appearances.
Musiala has now revealed it is difficult being compared to someone like Messi after his style of play was compared with the Argentine legend by Germany great Lothar Matthaus, Sportskeeda reports.

"Being compared to Messi is an absolute honour. He's been playing at the top level all his life. It's very difficult to compare yourself to him. I want to focus on myself and what I can do better as Jamal."
Musiala is expected to feature in Germany’s first game at the World Cup against Japan on Wednesday, November 23rd before further games against Spain and Costa Rica.
Musiala takes inspiration from England’s youth team
Meanwhile, Jamal Musiala claimed that the adage he picked up while playing with England's young teams served as his inspiration before Germany's World Cup run, The Guardian reports.
Musiala says that the motto of “play with freedom” which he learned from England’s youth teams will be his watchword when he finally features in his first World Cup for Germany.
