Daniel Afriyie Barnieh's mother broke down in tears after her son made the final squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Hearts of Oak talisman was named in coach Otto Addo's team for the World Cup, following his good run of form for the Phobians.

In a video posted on social media, Madam Comfort Konadu could not hold back her tears as he expressed delight in the achievement of her son.

"I am so surprised," she told Tv3. "I am grateful to God for letting the national team take my son to the World Cup."

Barnieh's mother admitted she was surprised at his inclusion given the many talented footballers in the country, but added that nothing was impossible for God as she gave thanks.

Barnieh led Ghana's U20 to youth Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2021, and was also the star for the Black Stars as they qualified for the CHAN tournament in Algeria.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea at the World Cup.

Otto Addo names 26-man squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Addo has announced his squad of 26 men for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At a press conference in Accra, the 47-year-old named his team contesting for the Mundial, with several notable names included.

Conspicuously absent are Joseph Paintsil, Majeed Ashimeru and Felix Afena-Gyan.

Ghanaian fans celebrate in Qatar

Fans of the Ghanaian national football team put the city of Doha in jubilant mood, singing and dancing in Qatar's capital in excitement for the World Cup.

Sports Brief has reported that the Black Stars were expected in the Middle East country this week, ahead of the kick-off.

Ahead of the opening whistle, Black Stars fans were pictured vibing on the streets of Qatar in a show of support for their team.
