Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has revealed that his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has still not congratulated him on his Ballon d'Or.

The Frenchman got his hands on the coveted prize for the first time in October, with the Portuguese captain finishing 20th.

Benzema pipped Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane and Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne to win this year's award, after starring for Real Madrid last season.

The 34-year-old bagged an incredible 44 goals in 46 games in all competitions, playing a vital role in Los Blancos' triumph in La Liga and the Champions League.

Benzema received widespread recognition from fans and footballers, with two-time Ballon d'Or recipient Zinedine Zidane labelling him the 'best striker in French football history'.

However, his former colleague Ronaldo is yet to send him a congratulatory message following his historic individual triumph.

When asked in an interview with French outlet Telefoot, via Mirror Football, if he had been in contact with ex-Real Madrid team-mate Ronaldo since winning the award, Benzema responded:

"No, not yet."

Relations between the pair are unclear, although there are suggestions they are no longer the pals they once were at Santiago Bernabeu.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Karim Benzema got a hero's welcome on his return to his hometown club of Olympique Lyon on Friday night.

The 34-year-old was invited by Lyon to present his Ballon d'Or trophy in front of 41,000 crowd, ahead of the team's Ligue 1 game against Nice at Groupama Stadium.

The Frenchman started his senior career with Les Gones before moving to the Santiago Bernabeu outfit in 2009.
