Spain boss, Luis Enrique is confident of the capabilities of his final 26-man squad selection for 2022 FIFA World Cup after omitting top players from the list.

Spanish veterans, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Alcantara, and David de Gea are some of the top players excluded from Enrique’s final squad for Qatar 2022.

Luis Enrique has however thanked all players he overlooked for the World Cup including Ramos and Thiago as he insists, he has picked the most important players for Spain, Metro UK reports.

“They deserved to be here, but only 26 can be in the squad. If it were a normal World Cup, we would integrate the physical needs into the training, but halfway through the season we are not going to work on the physical level of a player.
“I’m not going to go into the players that aren’t on the list. I thank everyone who has helped us get here, but now the important ones are the 26 called up.”

Spain who has been paired with Costa Rica, Germany, and Japan in Group E will be aiming to win the World Cup for the second time in their history when Qatar 2022 kicks off.

Spain tipped to advance from Group E

Spanish boss Luis Enrique and Germany’s Hansi Flick will be fancying themselves the favorites to emerge from the group E at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, NBC Sports reports.

Spain and Germany who are former World Cup winners will square up against Costa Rica and Japan for a place in the knockout stage.

Spain will kick off their World Cup opener against Costa Rica on November 23 before squaring up against Germany on November 27 and finally wrap up their group phase against Japan on December 1st.

Players cut from Spain’s World Cup squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Spain national team head coach Luis Enrique has announced his 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The squad is dominated by Barcelona players, with the likes of Jordi Alba and Ansu Fati making the cut.

Experienced players such as Sergio Ramos and Thiago Alcantara were omitted due to tactical reasons, but Enrique has shown faith in Athletic Bilbao youngster Nico Williams.
