According to the 33-year-old striker, the sacked manager was quick to throw the team under the bus and “it was all about him”

Ralph Hasenhuttl has been accused of ‘throwing the team under the bus’ in the wake of his Southampton sack.

Hasenhuttl was dismissed on Monday, November 7, barely 24 hours after Southampton suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat to the in-form Newcastle to leave them in the relegation zone.

It marked the end of a fairly long tenure for the manager, who was appointed at the St Marys stadium in November 2018.

At the time, Charlie Austin was still a Southampton striker but six months later, he left to join West Bromwich Albion.

While speaking on TalkSport, Austin lifted the lid on Hasenhuttl with some scathing comments about the Austrian manager.

"It was all about him," He started as quoted on The Mirror.
"He was quick to throw the team under the bus when the team was doing poorly. But when they were doing great, it was all about him.

"When you’re being asked if you can get out of a blip and you say, 'No' - I don’t think any manager can say that. You need to galvanise your team. Even if you don’t believe it, you need to say you can turn it around."

Hasenhuttl inherited a Southampton side that was 18th on the log and somehow managed to guide them to safety.

In his first full season in charge, he impressed as he guided the Saints to 11th in the Premier League table and over the next two campaigns, the team survived relegation.

But time seems to have finally caught up with the Austrian, who leaves Southampton with the club in 18th place after suffering eight defeats in their opening 14 league games.

Meanwhile, Austin has since moved on to Brisbane Roar in the Australian A-League.

Referee dishes 10 red cards in one match

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on a strange incident that saw the referee brandish 10 red cards in the same game.

This took place during the Argentina Cup final on Sunday, November 6.

Racing Club were crowned champions of Argentina's Champions Trophy after they defeated Boca Juniors 2-1 in extra time, but referee Facundo Tello was the highlight of the show.
