  • Matheus Cunha was heartbroken after he learnt that he did not make it into Tite's squad for the World Cup
  • Cunha's time at Atletico Madrid has been underwhelming, with Diego Simeone's approach to games cited as a major factor
  • Tite went with a star-studded squad, with Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar leading the hot pool of talents

While Brazil players who had been called up for action by Head Coach Tite celebrated with their family members, it was a different story for Matheus Cunha.

The Atletico Madrid striker had hoped to make the cut as one of the strikers but was overlooked in favour of other options like Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.

Cunha took to his Instagram stories to express his feelings after Tite had announced his squad. The striker shared a video of himself looking distraught as he looked away from the camera and said:

"To everyone who keeps sending me messages, thank you. It was hard and painful, but that's part of it. Our selection is spectacular and the competition is very great. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and we will be cheering you on," as translated by Sport Bible.

Cunha joined Atletico Madrid from Hertha Berlin but has failed to make an impact in Diego Simeone's squad. Simeone's conservative approach to games has been cited as the reason why some strikers fail to shine in the capital club.

Brazil's full squad

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Brazil mean business at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The South American side have announced their squad for the global showpiece in Qatar and have opted for a mix of youth and experience.

Tite’s 26-man squad will be looking to bring back the glory days of old and have a great chance of doing so with their balance of attack and defence.

It's in attack where the Brazilians really shine. Arsenal forwards Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus made the cut alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison, Manchester United's Antony, and Barcelona’s Raphinha.
