  • Mario Mandžukić believes his former sie Juventus’ season can still be salvaged
  • The retired striker played under Massimiliano Allegri for some years at Juventus
  • Juventus are out of the Champions League and sit miles behind league leaders Napoli in the Serie A

Former Juventus striker Mario Mandžukić has come out to back Massimiliano Allegri through a brilliant analysis on why The Old Lady is struggling this season.

Juventus find themselves in unfamiliar territory after getting eliminated from the Champions League and struggling domestically as well.

Their torrid season so far has led to questions being asked of Allegri, but the Juventus board is unwilling to part ways with a manager that is a proven winner in the Serie A.

“It’s the nature of football and the life of a manager: it doesn’t matter what you did one, two or five years ago, or even five weeks ago. The only thing that matters is how you are doing now. But I don’t think these results depend on Allegri, who has proven to be a great, successful coach. The former striker was quoted saying.
“Allegri is an excellent coach, and I believe he can reverse the situation because the team has the quality, and he has shown many times that he knows how to create winning groups.”

Under Allegri, Mandžukić scored an impressive 44 goals and registered 18 assists in 162 matches as a Juventus player.

Their most memorable stint together was when Juventus came extremely close to winning the Champions League in 2016/17, but they fell short in the final after losing to Real Madrid.

Mourinho trolls Sarri after Europa League elimination

Elsewhere, Sports Brief also reported on how Jose Mourinho poked fun at his arch-rival Maurizio Sarri after Lazio’s Champions League exit.

Lazio will have to play in the Conference League after they were beaten by Feyenoord to drop to the third-tier competition.

In a recent press conference, Mourinho joked Sarri was now among the favourites to win the Conference League.
