The player was in the middle of a counter-attack in the second half when he collapsed to the ground, clutching the back of his thigh.

Barca Universal reported that Kessie suffered a tear in the biceps femoris of his left leg. He could be out of action for at least six weeks.

Kessie will miss the remaining games against UD Almeria and CA Osasuna in La Liga before the World Cup begins.

Xavi comments on Kessie’s injury

During his post-match press conference, Xavi talked about the player’s injury and how it was a blow because Kessie was performing well.

“He is screwed. I think he has hurt his hamstring. He was playing a good game in the midfield position, winning duels, and was good at the start,” Xavi said.

Barcelona’s injury concerns

Barcelona have been plagued by injuries since the international break and are without a host of players.

Ronald Araujo, Memphis Depay, Frenkie de Jong, Andreas Christensen, Sergi Roberto and Eric Garcia are currently injured, while a few others have minor concerns.

19-year-old Pablo Torre also had to be stretchered off during the Champions League game, but Xavi has downplayed any concerns about the youngster’s injury, Football Espana reported.

Kessie and Christensen also injured

Barcelona’s injury woes know no end. The Catalan club have two more players on the sidelines, with one of those being another defender, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Goal initially reported that defender Andreas Christensen picked up an injury during the UEFA Champions League game against Inter Milan.

Bellerín, Depay, de Jong hurt

Barcelona have been hit with an injury crisis, and the situation appears to be getting worse, Sports Brief also reported.

The Blaugrana have already lost Jules Koundé, Ronald Araújo and Ousmane Dembélé to injury during the international break - and now have three more players injured.

As reported by Goal, Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay will be out of action after picking up injuries while on international duty with the Netherlands, Sports Brief reported.
