  • Raheem Sterling has been warned that his place in England's World Cup squad is in doubt if he continues with his poor form at Chelsea
  • Sterling produced a forgettable performance for Chelsea when they lost 4-1 to Brighton on Saturday
  • The England winger is an England regular with 79 caps and is always the first name on the team sheet for Gareth Southgate

Graham Potter suffered his first defeat as Chelsea boss when his former team inflicted an embarrassing 4-1 defeat on Saturday, October 29th.

The Blues were down 3-0 in the first half and were completely outplayed by Roberto de Zerbis' team. Raheem Sterling, an ever-present player on Potter's team, has been heavily criticised for his performance against the Seagulls.

Sterling was substituted just after the hour mark as his team was chasing goals and his performance wasn't excellent. The 27-year-old made a big move from Manchester City this summer but has yet to light Stamford Bridge up., according to Sky Sports.

He has failed to score in his last eight appearances for the Blues in all competitions. He last found the net in Chelsea's Champions League draw with RB Salzburg, which was Potter's first game as Chelsea manager.

Sterling warned about World Cup

Chelsea legend Pat Nevin has said the forward produced a poor performance and, on current form, he shouldn't be at the World Cup, according to the Mirror.

"If he keeps playing the way he is right now, he's not even a consideration for the World Cup. He is having a really really bad time and today he is having an absolutely terrible game."

Nevin, 59, said the England forward hasn't gotten better under Potter.

"I'm watching Raheem Sterling right now and I've said that Graham Potter has got the best from every player since he has been there, with one exception. Raheem Sterling."

The former Liverpool winger is a regular for the Three Lions with 79 caps. He has netted 19 times for England 19 goals and was named in the Euro 2020 team of the tournament.

Sterling scores first Potter goal

Sports Brief earlier reported on Raheem Sterling scoring the first goal for Graham Potter's reign at Chelsea.

Sterling put Chelsea ahead early in the second half at Stamford Bridge, but they could only draw 1-1.

However, the Blues won the reverse fixture 2-1 last week to secure a place in the last 16 in the Champions League.
