  • Lisandro Martinez has vehemently kicked against Lionel Messi's decision to retire from the Argentina national team after the 2022 FIFA World Cup
  • The hard-tackling Manchester United defender has vowed not to allow Messi to retire and promised to go to war for the Paris Saint-Germain superstar
  • Messi, who finally won his first international trophy with Argentina, lifting the Copa America last year, will be appearing at his fifth Mundial

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has rejected Lionel Messi's decision to quit the national team after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Messi, who first appeared for La Albiceleste at the 2006 World Cup, has earlier revealed his decision to bring the curtains on his national team career.

"It's my last World Cup, surely. I feel good physically, I was able to do a very good pre-season this year, which I couldn't do last year. It was essential to get to where I am, with a good state of mind and a lot of hope," the 35-year-old told ESPN Argentina.

United defender Lisandro Martinez isn’t quite prepared with Messi retiring from international competition with Argentina.

“How will this be Messi’s last World Cup?” Martinez quizzed as quoted by PSG Talk.
He continued: “No, no he’s crazy, we’re not going to let him leave … We’ll go to war for him.”

The PSG playmaker, who has rediscovered his mojo after a torrid first season in the French capital, is due to appear in his fifth World Cup.

He made his international debut in 2005 and has since won 164 caps for Argentina and is the country's all-time record scorer with 90 goals.

Ronaldo wants Messi to fail at World Cup

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Brazil striker Luis Ronaldo De Lima has admitted he cannot bear the thought of Lionel Messi winning the World Cup with Argentina in Qatar this year.

Messi is enjoying a resurgence season with Paris Saint-Germain this term but will have one year on the Mundial which is less than one month away.

The 35-year-old will be hoping he continues his scintillating club form when he travels to Qatar in November to represent the Albiceleste.
