  • Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has detailed rules and regulations Erling Haaland has to follow during the Premier League break
  • Guardiola said the on-form striker will have to behave responsibly if he wants to continue scoring goals for fun
  • Haaland has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season, with 17 of those coming in the Premier League

Premier League leading top scorer Erling Haaland has been given strict rules during the 2022 World Cup break, by his manager Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester City striker is enjoying a phenomenal start to his career in England, scoring 17 goals in 12 league matches so far.

Since Norway did not qualify for the World Cup, Haaland will have six weeks to rest as many Premier League footballers participate in the tournament.

The young star striker is on pace to break the single-season goal record in the league and with the extended break, pundits expect the Norwegian to be fresh and ready for the second half of the season.

Guardiola's rules for Haaland

The Man City manager laid down the rules for his star player, saying he must not indulge too much, according to Talksport.

“I’m pretty sure he will love to be at the World Cup and maybe the next one or Euros he will. But he has a house in Marbella; go there, play golf. Hopefully, he don’t drink much, eat much and come back fit."

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss said Haaland's performance in the second half of the season will depend on his behaviour during the break.

"He will be in Marbella for sure or in Norway. It depends on how he behaves in Marbella as to how good he is for the second half of the season."

The 22-year-old was on target again on Saturday, October 22 against Brighton, taking his tally for the season to 17 in the league and 22 overall, according to Transfermarkt.

Guardiola outlines record Haaland could break

Sports Brief earlier reported on Pep Guardiola revealing Haaland could break the single-season goals record.

The record of 34 goals is currently jointly held by former Man United striker Andy Cole and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer.

However, Haaland needs just 12 matches to shatter it, should he continue his impressive goal-scoring streak.
