With 17 of those goals coming in the EPL, the former Dortmund hotshot has since laid an early claim on the prestigious Golden Boot award.

Haaland tipped to break record

Guardiola is backing his star man to shatter records going forward with his blistering goal scoring form.

The City boss contends Haaland can break the Premier League seasonal scoring record this campaign of 34 goals - a record currently held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

"We don't have to be a genius. If he continues in this rhythm, with the average every game, he's going to break the record, definitely," Pep said as quoted by Goal. "But in football, maybe you score and in a few days stop to score. I don't know."

Haaland is currently averaging 1.65 goals per game this season, meaning he could break that record in just 12 matches, should he maintain the tempo.

Fans claim Erling Haaland was 'pocketed' by Van Dijk

Sports Brief earlier reported on fans claiming Haaland was pocketed by Virgil Van Dijk last Sunday during the EPL clash at Anfield.

During the clash, Liverpool shut down Haaland's supply route - particularly from Kevin De Bruyne - a player with whom Haaland has formed a great relationship.

Jurgen Klopp's side devised an elaborate plan to nullify Man City, and they executed it perfectly.
