Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has sent a message of support to the Liverpool legend who was sacked as Aston Villa manager last night, after his side lost 3-0 to Fulham.

Steven Gerrard retired from football in 2016 after enjoying a glittering career at Anfield, coming extremely close to winning a Premier League medal.

Klopp arrived at Liverpool in October 2015, meaning he never coached the former Rangers manager, who had just retired.

The 42-year-old played a staggering 710 games for the Reds. He joined MLS side LA Galaxy in 2015 before retiring after 19 years in the game, according to the BBC.

Shortly after retirement, he coached the Liverpool academy in 2017 before managing the under-18 team during the 2017/18 season.

Klopp's message to Gerrard

According to the Liverpool Echo, Klopp paid tribute to the Anfield legend, saying he believes the sacking was just a bump in the road and he would surely return to management soon.

"I'm very sure he will come back from that. I can imagine it's disappointing for him because of the ambitions he had and the things he wanted to achieve at Aston Villa. It's not cool, but I don't think we have to worry now about Stevie."

Klopp said the legendary midfielder understands the nature of their jobs.

"We all get knocks in life, it's all about how we respond. You all know Stevie still better than I do. He always came back and he will come back from that. No doubt about that. Things like this can happen."

Gerrard guided Villa to a poor start this season. With just two wins from 11 Premier League games, last night's 3-0 defeat to promoted club Fulham became the final straw.

Gerrard sacked by Aston Villa

Sports Brief earlier reported on Steven Gerrard getting sacked by Aston Villa, shortly after their 3-0 defeat away at Fulham.

Gerrard paid the price for Villa's wretched start to the season, which sees the club languishing just one place above the Premier League relegation zone.

Gerrard and his players had been booed off at full-time by Villa fans.
