Former Liverpool player Layton Maxwell has been handed an eight-year jail sentence for his role in narcotics trafficking.
Maxwell's fall from grace has been heartwrenching to see, given that he was one of the most promising stars at Anfield.
He scored his debut goal when he was just 19, before a sharp turn of events turned him into a life of crime and narcotics dealing.
BBC News reports that Maxwell allowed a narcotics peddling gang to use his home in Cardiff as a store for their narcotics. Authorities found the stash and cash in his apartment.

The now 43-year-old was a teammate to England stars and Champions League winners Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. However, after scoring his debut goal at Anfield in 1999, he was released by the club in 2001.
From soccer to an engineer
Maxwell also played for Stockport and Swansea. He was arrested in 2020 and pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to supply Class A narcotics.
The Mirror reports that the Welsh player dropped down the ranks of football after joining League sides Bangor City and Caernarfon Town in his home country.
He then became an engineer with Vodafone and also took care of Cardiff Draconians in the Welsh third tier.
