  • There was a beautiful moment on Saturday, October 8 during Wolves’ visit to Stamford Bridge as Diego Costa received a standing ovation
  • The veteran striker won two Premier League titles during his time at Chelsea
  • Chelsea cruised to a routine 3-0 win as the revival under Graham Potter continued

Diego Costa was left emotional after receiving a rousing standing ovation from Chelsea fans on his return to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans have fond memories of Costa, 35, who won two Premier League titles and a Golden boot during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Having signed for Wolves in a short-term deal, Costa was handed a first start, with Wolves interim boss Steve Davis hoping the veteran could inflict damage on his former side.

That did not happen, however, and Costa was taken off in the 57th minute.

Despite failing to make an impact in the game, Costa will surely have been grateful for the reception he received from Chelsea fans as he walked off the pitch.

By the time he was being taken off, the game was practically out of Wolves’ reach as the Blues had established a 2-0 lead.

How the game went

As far as the game was concerned, Chelsea were always the favourites going into it.

Kai Havertz got his side’s first goal as the game was heading towards halftime, with Christian Pulisic doubling the lead after a brilliant one-two with Mason Mount.

Armando Broja then got his first goal in Chelsea colours with a decent strike late on.

Conte reduced to tears in Tottenham’s game vs Brighton

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported of how Antonio Conte could barely hold back his tears on Saturday as the entire Amex stadium paid a powerful tribute to the departed Spurs fitness coach Gian Piero Ventroe.

The departed fitness coach was a valued member of Antonio Conte’s staff, and worked with the tactician at Juventus and more recently at Spurs.

In addition to respects that were already paid to Ventrone earlier in the week, Tottenham players showed their class with another emotional gesture prior to the game against Brighton.
