  • Juventus will not hold contract talks with any player until after the World Cup
  • The Old Lady is having a torrid season, sitting eighth in the Serie A and facing elimination from the Champions League
  • President Andrea Agnelli refused to place all blame on manager Maximilliano Allegri as he insisted the problems were more than an individual

Juventus have taken their first real step of trying to fix their lowly season as the club has opted against renewing any of their players’ contracts until after the World Cup.

The Bianconeri hit a new low on Tuesday, October 11 after succumbing to a shock 2-0 defeat against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League.

Another defeat acted as a wake-up call to the club’s hierarchy, which is determined to get to the root cause of the club’s issues this season.

Everything that happened in the aftermath of Maccabi defeat

OneFootball further reports that after arriving back in Turin on Wednesday afternoon, manager Massimiliano Allegri allowed the team some hours off instead of engaging them immediately.

But a day earlier, things were not so calm as the Juventus president addressed the whole squad in the locker room immediately after the 2-0 defeat to the Israeli side.

Agnelli reportedly made it clear that every player’s performance for the team were being scutinized, and contracts might start getting terminated if the results did not improve.

He made it clear to the players that the club was not afraid of plucking any player from the squad, even if it meant financial losses.

Allegri stays

Meanwhile, Sports Brief covered Agnelli’s first public sentiments backing Allegri after defeat to Maccabi.

Calls to have Allegri sacked are now too loud for the fans, but President Agnelli was keen to set the record straight immediately after the match.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the defeat on Tuesday, he said:

“This is a difficult night in a difficult period. It is one of the most difficult periods and the moment to take responsibility, which is why I am here,”
