Impressive midfielder Enock Mwepu has been forced to retire from professional football, and the Zambian international is sad about the development.

According to a statement by Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, the record signing of £20 million has been forced to retire after being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition.

Mwepu, who feels gutted about the situation, seems to have accepted his fate with sadness but vows to remain involved in football in other capacities.

In a touching message on social media, the 24-year-old thanked everyone involved in his career as he revealed that he was advised to hang his boots.

Mwepu wrote:

“A boy from a small Zambian township called Chambishi has some news to share. He stood strong to follow his dream of playing football at the highest level and by the grace of God he lived his dream by reaching the Premier League."
“Some dreams however come to an end, so it is with sadness that I announce the need to hang up my boots because of the medical advice I have received. This is however not the end of my involvement with football, I play to stay involved in some capacity."
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that supported me in my football journey, including my wife and family, my agent 12MAN, the Zambian FA, all my previous clubs, team-mates and coaches, and specially everyone at Brighton & Hove Albion. Enock ‘Computer’ Mwepu.”

Alphonso Davies opens up on challenges that come with a heart condition

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has finally opened up on the challenges he faced after missing almost 5 months of football action, following a diagnosis of an inflammatory heart condition.

The 21-year-old Canadian had suffered complications after contracting Covid-19 during the winter summer break of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season.

Davies revealed the whole experience was scary for him as he feared his football career was over, as there was no time frame for his return.
