"The Ballon d'Or was the biggest injustice. A lot of politics. As soon as I got to the Gala, I told my wife that I would lose. I saw how Sepp Blatter was hugging Ronaldo and how his entire family was there. I'm not stupid. It was clear that he had to win it."

Ronaldo had failed to win the Champions League, La Liga or Copa del Rey in 2013 but the Portugal attacker had scored a total of 69 goals in 69 appearances for Real Madrid.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported former Bayern Munich playmaker Franck Ribery says he and former teammate Arjen Robben were better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo at some point.

To date, the Frenchman believes he was robbed of the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2013 as CR7 scooped the award that year.

Having dominated world football for more than a decade, Messi has been handed the Ballon d’Or award seven times, while his Portuguese counterpart has five.
