Nigeria’s 62nd National Day and Cultural Night in Seoul, Korea, was graced by a number of superstars, including former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi.

Having gained independence on October 1, 1960, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora are celebrating their 62nd independence.

Activities were also lined up by the Nigerian embassy in Seoul, where there was a cultural exhibition by Nigerians living in the Asian country as famous comedian Basket Mouth and music singer Kcee entertained the guests.

Despite quite a number of challenges facing the country, Nigeria continues to engage in diplomatic rapport with several countries in a bid to attract investors to the West African nation.

Korea Herald reports that Nigeria hopes for stronger ties with Korea for sustainable development as officials from both countries interact during the Nigeria-Korea Business Forum at the Ambassador Hotel in Seoul on Wednesday, October 5.

The forum aimed to strengthen Nigeria-Korea network capabilities and share diverse ideas and business solutions for sectors such as oil and gas, agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing and ICT, tourism culture, and the creative industry to reach out to investors and key figures taking lead.

Addressing the forum's opening ceremony, Nigerian ambassador to Korea Ali Magashi emphasized the Nigeria-Korea bilateral trade volume that hit over $1.5 billion as of June 2022, making Nigeria South Korea’s largest trading partner on the African continent.

Mikel Obi retires from football

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has announced his retirement from football after 20 years in which the Nigerian will be remembered as one of the best African midfielders ever.

The Chelsea legend took to his official Instagram page on Tuesday afternoon, 27 September, to make the announcement with the Nigerian thanking all the people who supported his football career.

Obi Mikel is retiring as a hero at the age of 35 with laurels won for both clubs and country as it will be recalled that he was among the Super Eagles players who won the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa.
