  • Kyle Walker's World Cup spot in Qatar is now at risk after he underwent surgery on his groin
  • No specific timeframe has been set for his return, but with the World Cup approximately 7 weeks away, his chances of making a recovery before then are slim
  • England's head coach Gareth Southgate still has an abundance of talent in his position but could possibly miss out on Walker's pace

Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker has sent out a message after undergoing successful groin surgery.

Walker picked up the injury during the Manchester derby and had to be replaced just before half-time by new signing Sergio Gomez.

Walker took to his Twitter account to share his surgery update with his followers and stated;

As players, we have to appreciate injuries are part and parcel of the game we love. My operation on Tuesday was a success and now I can concentrate on my rehab and getting back to full fitness. I will be supporting my team mates every day in any way I can.

It will be a double-edged sword for Gareth Southgate if Walker fails to make it in time for Qatar. The Three Lions are embarrassed with enormous talents in the right-back position.

Chelsea's Reece James has already laid down a marker this season that he intends to be Southgate's first-choice in Qatar. Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a decent right-back despite his inconsistencies this season. Kieran Trippier could also fill the same position.

However, of all the options Southgate has, Walker has an edge when it comes to pace. He could come in handy when dealing with quick wingers like Brazil's Vinicius Junior or South Korea's Son Heung-min.

No time frame has been set for his return.

Chelsea's Wesley Fofana suffers a horrible-looking injury during the clash against AC Milan

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Chelsea's 3-0 win over AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night came at a great cost - an injury to Wesley Fofana.

The defender, who joined the Blues this past summer, had to leave the pitch after 35 minutes after he was fouled by Milan's Rafael Leao.

He broke down in tears after his substitution, evidence that the injury could be bad.
