  • Paulo Futre asked for an autograph when he met with Lionel Messi before the clash between FC Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain
  • It was only the second time the Portugal legend has requested an autograph from a footballer, with the first being Diego Maradona
  • Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet for the umpteenth time this season when his solitary goal helped the French side secure a point against Benfica

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi has become only the second player Portugal legend Paulo Futre has ever asked for an autograph.

The Argentine captain scored a sensational goal in his side's 1-1 draw at Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Messi's superlative performance caught the eyes of Futre, who was on television duty as a pundit for the Group H encounter at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

He managed to achieve his wish when he got Messi to sign his Atleti jersey with his name on the back, before giving him a massive hug.

Futre wrote on Twitter:

"Diego Maradona was the only player I asked for an autograph for myself. It was when we shared a team in the 1987 World Team. Today, I have asked Lionel Messi for the second."

As noted by the Mirror, Messi set a new Champions League record last night to move further ahead of his rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi’s goal against Benfica took him clear of the Manchester United forward in terms of opponents scored against in the Champions League.

Benfica became the 40th club in the competition that the Argentinian wizard has scored against, setting a new record in the process.

Online Commentators Shower Leo Messi With Praise After PSG Superstar Scores Wonder Goal Against Benfica

Sports Brief earlier reported that Lionel Messi gave a reminder to the football ecosystem about his evergreen wizardry during Paris Saint-Germain's 1-1 draw with Benfica.

Messi has been in red-hot form since the start of the campaign, scoring 8 goals in his last six games for Argentina and PSG.

He continued in a similar fashion when he scored a trademark curler from outside the box, but his stunning goal was not enough as Benfica clawed back to share the spoils with the French side.
