Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi insists Real Madrid were lucky to win the 2021/22 Champions League.

The Los Blancos defeated PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City en route to the final – where they then pipped six-time European winners Liverpool to win the Champions League.

PSG's elimination against Carlo Ancelotti's men in the round of 16 was a huge blow for the Parisians, and Messi still hasn’t managed to forget it.

Messi added that their main target this season, much like last, is to conquer Europe. He however admitted that will be an arduous task for his side because the best team does not always win it.

“Last season’s elimination was very hard because of how it happened, because we had played two great games against Real Madrid and the tie was lost in small details.

Argentina are currently in the United States as they make last-minute preparations for the World Cup. The Albiceleste will be heading to Qatar as a strong favourite, having dominated for the last two years.

Messi put on a show against Honduras in an international friendly by grabbing a brace. Lautaro Martinez scored the other goal in a 3-0 win for Lionel Scaloni's men.
