  • Everton had the chance to sign Erling Haaland back in 2018 but pulled away from a move
  • At the time, the Toffees deemed £ 5 million, which was Haaland’s valuation at the time, as too much
  • The Norwegian has since joined the Premier League, taking the English top flight by storm

When it comes to footballing regrets, none comes close to Everton missing out on signing Erling Haaland back in 2018.

The Merseyside Blue reportedly could have signed Haaland for a mere £ 5 million four years ago, but ended up walking away from the deal.

This revelation was made public by Former Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson, who took to Twitter with an interesting story.

“In 2018 I was at a meeting at Finch Farm with EFC we watched a video of an 18 year old Norwegian Kid played for Molde, wow he was scoring for fun. Bill Kenwright shouted, ‘what do think Joe?’ Anderson tweeted.

“‘Sign him,’ I shouted back, Robert Elstone said and I will never forget, ‘They want £7 million’.”

According to a report on Daily Mail, Everton would have easily signed him for five million pounds, but that was deemed too much.

At the time, Haaland was playing for Norwegian side Molde under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He ended up leaving Molde and joining RB Salzburg, before eventually securing a big move to Borussia Dortmund.

After 2 years in Germany, Haaland was signed by Manchester City for £51 million in what now looks like the bargain of the summer.

As a City player, Haaland has already scored 14 goals in eight games, including three back-to-back hat tricks at home.

The 22-year old put three past Manchester United in the derby on Sunday, October 2 as Man City cruised to a 6-3 victory.

Man United also missed out on Haaland

Earlier, Sports Brief also reported on how Manchester United missed the chance to sign Haaland.

A few years back, Solskjaer was smitten with Haaland’s prowess in front of goal, and he phoned the Man United bosses to possibly make a move for him.

United, however failed to act on the tip, and an insider within FC Molde has come out with interesting details of what went down.
