Gonzalo Higuain could not fight back his tears as he announced his decision to call time on his illustrious playing career, which has seen him play in Spain, Italy, England and now the United States.
Higuain's decision to draw the curtain on his career comes in the wake of a fine goal-scoring form for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami, scoring 12 goals in his last 14 matches, reports the Mirror.
The 34-year-old's playing career has been littered with a truckload of trophies while playing for some of Europe's premier clubs - Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea and Napoli.
He has overall scored more than 300 goals and recorded over 100 assists across more than 700 appearances with all the clubs he played for including boyhood club River Plate.

Announcing his decision to bring an end to his career, Higuain said during an emotional press conference on Monday, October 3:
"After seventeen and a half years of the most wonderful professional career I have ever had, I feel that football has given me a lot, having given everything of myself and more,”
"Thank you very much to those who always trusted me, the time has come to say goodbye.”

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Gonzalo Higuain was put to the task to pick one of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite player.
Higuain is one of the few players who have had the rare experience to play with football's arguably best-ever talents.
He played with Ronaldo over two stints at Real Madrid and Juventus. He was also a regular member of the Argentina national team alongside Messi.
