  • He never won any trophy with Messi but congratulated the Paris Saint-Germain superstar for winning the Copa America last year

Gonzalo Higuain was put to task to pick one of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite player.

Higuain is one of the few players who have had the rare experience to play with football's arguably best-ever talents.

Speaking to TYC Sports via Sportskeeda, Higuain chose Messi as his best player.

For bread and cheese, I choose Leo. Off the pitch, Cristiano is a calm and pleasant person. At Juventus I found him mature with family and children and we made a good relationship, he talked to me a lot and he leaned on me a lot.

Messi and Higuain never won any trophy for Argentina. They lost the 2014 World Cup final but Higuain was quick to congratulate Messi for winning his first-ever trophy with Argentina last year.

It makes me very happy that Messi has won the Copa América because I know everything he has done and what he does for the National Team.

The 34-year-old who now turns out for Inter Miami lauded both Messi and Ronaldo, despite picking his Argentina compatriot.

I think I was the first or second player who played the most with both of them. They are two big and different players who had a parallel fight that I don't think will happen again in the history of football.

Heartbreaking footage of Lionel Messi watching the World Cup final loss emerges online

Sports Brief has also reported that a video footage showing Lionel Messi watching Argentina's missed chances in the 2014 World Cup has emerged online.

The footage, which is either pleasing or painful depending on whether you are a Messi die-hard or not, captures Messi's reactions as his side came close to winning football's biggest trophy.

Argentina were set to cap off a wonderful run and win the World Cup in the home soil of their eternal rivals Brazil. But a couple of missed chances against Germany saw Messi miss out on the only trophy missing in his impressive cabinet.
