FIFA says it is a dark day for football following the tragic stadium disaster in Indonesia on Saturday night.
Over 127 fans have been reported dead with 200 people suffering various degrees of injuries following a riot after the game between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.
FIFA, in a statement released on Sunday, said it is in the state of shock following what could be the worst stadium disaster in history.
“The football world is in a state of shock following the tragic incidents that have taken place in Indonesia at the end of the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

“This is a dark day for all involved in football and a tragedy beyond comprehension. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who lost their lives following this tragic incident," he added.
"Together with FIFA and the global football community, all our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, those who have been injured, together with the people of the Republic of Indonesia, the Asian Football Confederation, the Indonesian Football Association, and the Indonesian Football League, at this difficult time.”

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that one of the most tragic stadium disasters in modern times happened on Saturday, October 1 as at last 127 people lost their lives after a football match in Indonesia.
At a stadium in East Java, violence broke out following the match involving Persebaya Surabaya and Arema.
Persebaya Surabaya controversially won the game 3-2, and this led to irate fans invading the stadium.
