Iker Casillas has shut down rumours that he is dating Shakira.

The former Real Madrid keeper is currently single after finalising his divorce from journalist Sara Carbonero, while Shakira is separated from Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué.

Casillas retired from football in 2020 after playing his last game for Porto.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Casillas recently followed the Colombian singer on Instagram, which then fuelled speculation that the pair were an item.

The former Los Blancos keeper was then quick to take to social media to dismiss the rumours that he was dating the Grammy Award winner.

Casillas shared a series of screen grabs from articles on his Instagram stories and then added emojis to indicate that he doesn’t know where these rumours came from.

Shakira and Piqué confirmed their separation in June after 12 years together. The couple have two kids together but separated after the defender was found to have cheated on the pop star.

The defender has come under fire since the news of his infidelity broke, and matters worsened when he was spotted dating a 23-year-old student shortly after separating from Shakira.

His very public and messy separation also angered his club. Barca were unhappy that his personal life dominated headlines while he still represented them as a player.

Fans have also targeted Piqué for his actions. During Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States of America, fans shouted ‘Shakira Shakira’ every time the defender touched the ball, Marca reported.

Colombian pop sensation Shakira has spoken publicly for the first time following her split from FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, Sports Brief reported.

The Waka Waka hitmaker confirmed her separation from Piqué in June. The couple had been in a relationship for 12 years and have two children together: Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven.

The pair brought an end to their relationship on the back of Gerard Piqué's infidelity.
