“Massive shout out to my family, friends, players and staff from the amazing clubs I have been fortunate enough to represent as well as the support I have had from the fans.”

He started his career at Leeds United in the Championship, before eventually going on to make 204 Premier League appearances for Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

In 2018, he made Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup, where he made three appearances.

However, despite a fairly glittery career, things took a turn for the worse for Delph in recent years as he has struggled with consistent injuries.

His spell at Everton was particularly plagued by injuries which restricted him to a mere 11 appearances for the Toffees last season.

He was among two other big names Cenk Tosun and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who walked out of the club after expiry of their contracts.

For Delph, his most successful stint in his career will be at Manchester City, where he thrived under Pep Guardiola for a few years, winning two Premier League titles.

Following his announcement, a number of football stars came together to wish him well including England’s Kalvin Phillips, Marcus Rashford, Declan Rice, as well as former teammates.

Douglas Luiz calls out journalist for inappropriate joke

Elsewhere, Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has ripped into Brazilian journalist Milton Neves after he shared a video that appeared to objectify his girlfriend, Alisha Lehmann.

Luiz's girlfriend, Alisha Lehmann, is also a professional footballer and plies her trade with the Aston Villa Women's team.

In the video, Lehmann is seen celebrating one of her goals with her back turned toward the camera. In a popular video that had circulated online, a social media user had asked people to say what number was on her jersey without rewatching the video.
