Real Madrid may have claimed bragging rights in the Madrid derby, but there’s still no love lost between the two sides.
Rodrygo and Fede Valverde both got onto the scoresheet in the first half as Real claimed a comfortable 2-1 win.
Mario Hermoso grabbed a consolation goal late in the game for Atletico, but he was also sent off soon after for a second yellow card.
Speaking after the game, Simeone remained optimistic about Atletico’s season thus far and praised his team. He said that despite the result, he felt as if they won large parts of the game, Football Espana reported.

While praising his side, Simeone also took a cheeky cheap shot at Real during his post-match conference, commenting on their style of play.
“Their forcefulness is wonderful to see. A team that defends in a low block and counterattacks. It reminds me of the team we had with Diego Costa, when they criticised us back then,” he said.
Diego Costa’s side remains in the seventh spot on the La Liga table as the league takes a break for international games. They’ve won just three of their six games in La Liga, drew one and lost two.
On the other hand, Real have won all six of their features in the league this season.
