Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has pledged to sponsor the education of a brilliant Togolese student known as Godwin Sodji.

Adebayor, through his Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor foundation, will foot the educational bills of young Sodji as he starts his education at the African Institute of Sciences, Technologies and Trade.

In a post on Facebook, Adebayor congratulated the student for emerging top in a national exam in Togo and has promised to help him realize his dreams of pursuing Law and Political Science.

"SEA, I shared a nice moment with the young Godwin Sodji, the 1st from Togo in the BAC serie A4 with an average score of 17.38. My congratulations to him and his family," he wrote.

"My SEA Foundation granted a scholarship of excellence to this brilliant student to pursue his dream and live his passion of Law and Political Science at the African Institute of Sciences, Technologies and Trade in Lome, Togo and African University of Social, Technical and Medical Sciences, two establishments I sponsor to promote education and entrepreneurship among young people in Africa."

Emmanuel Adebayor is revered across the continent for his philanthropic works and especially in his home country of Togo.

The former Arsenal forward enjoyed a stellar career in Europe, playing for some of the best clubs, including Manchester City and Tottenham in England.

Emmanuel Adebayor meets Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Emmanuel Adebayor reunited with former Nigerian international Kanu Nwankwo as the ex-Arsenal stars were spotted chilling together during a trip.

Kanu featured for Premier League club Arsenal between 1999 and 2004, playing a total of 198 matches and scoring 44 goals for the club.

Emmanuel Adebayor, however, joined the Gunners in 2006, two years after Kanu had left and the Togolese sensation played in 142 matches and scored 62 goals for the club before his exit in 2009, Just Arsenal reports.
