Former Super Eagles Star Gernot Rohr Speaks Again Over Nigeria’s Failure to Qualify for World Cup

Ousted Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has once again reacted to Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The tactician was fired shortly before AFCON 2021 as Augustine Eguavoen led the team to the second round of the continental showpiece, where they lost to Tunisia 1-0.

Eguavoen and his technical crew members were then saddled with the responsibility of qualifying the team for the World Cup.

The Eagles played a 0-0 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, but the second leg ended 1-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Consequently, the Black Stars progressed via the away goals rule, and Rohr has expressed sadness for his former players.

Rohr told Owngoal Nigeria:

“We were still celebrating when the news came that I have been sacked as coach. They claimed it was an order from the top. I was in shock. This came at a time when I feel we are almost getting close to making out project for the team work

“The aim was winning the AFCON and we had plans for a team that would have won it and also qualified for the World Cup. There was a plan to integrate new players using the AFCON and all the pre world cup friendly games. I can’t think of any player in the team now that we didn’t have in our plan or gave a call up. I’m sad for my players.”

NFF owe vendors over N600m - Pinnick

Sports Brief earlier reported that the president of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has stated that the football house owes a number of vendors more than N600million.

In an interview with Brila FM, Pinnick disclosed that the NFF has outstanding bills to settle hotels, travel agents, national teams, and staff members.

The administrator, who has just over a month left before his second tenure ends, added that the NFF is also being owed $6million by one of its sponsors.
