  • Manchester United will be looking for their third successive league win when they visit the King Power Stadium
  • They have a high chance of clinching victory in the game as Leicester have been out of sorts so far this season
  • Erik Ten Hag is also likely to call on the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is set to stay with the club

Thursday, September 1, will see the closing game of round 5 in the 2022/23 Premier League season as Leicester City lock horns with Manchester United.

Brendan Rodgers side will not have envisioned sitting at the bottom of the table after four matches, but the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer might have something to do with their slump.

United have also had a taste of what it is like to sit bottom of the pile, after losing their opening two games of the season to Brighton and Brentford.

Head to head

The corresponding fixture last season saw Leicester City come from behind to secure a stunning 4-2 victory over United in a result that marked the beginning of the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.

Under Erik Ten Hag, however, we might have a fairly different contest for several reasons.

The Foxes can take solace from the fact that they are unbeaten in their past five matches against United in all competitions, winning thrice and drawing twice.

For United, the fact that they have scored in each of the previous 26 meetings against Leicester will also give them some hope that goals will be on the cards.

Team News, Leicester

Brendan Rodgers will be glad to have James Maddison back as the Englishman missed the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday with a hamstring strain.

However, Ryan Bertrand and Ricardo Pereira remain long term absentees for the team.

Danny Ward has established himself as the number one goalkeeper for the team since the departure of Kasper Schmeichel, and Brendan Rodgers is likely to go with a 4-3-3 formation that he has gotten accustomed to.

Here is how the Foxes could line up on Thursday:

Ward; Castagne, Amartey, Evans, Justin; Dewsbury-Hall, Ndidi, Tielemans; Perez, Vardy, Barnes

Team News, Manchester United

The Red Devils just completed the signing of Anthony from Ajax.

The Brazilian however was not registered on time for the clash, and will sit it out, but will possibly be available for the game against table-toppers Arsenal.

Anthony Martial is still out with an Achilles injury, while Victor Lindelof returned to training recently but it is unlikely he will be risked for such an intense game.

Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have exhibited a solid partnership in defense in recent games and are likely to be selected once again at the expense of Harry Maguire.

Here is how United could like up against Leicester:

De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; Casemiro, Eriksen; Elanga, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford

Anthony's first sentiments at Man United

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s new signing Anthony has said the chance to play with Erik Ten Hag once again was a key motivator for his move to Old Trafford.

Moments after he was revealed in a Red shirt, the 22-year-old winger took to social media with an interesting message, saying United was the biggest club in England.

"Today I arrive at the biggest club in England, one of the biggest in the world and I just have to thank everyone who was part of this journey!” he said.
