The German striker scored a hattrick and set up Leipzig’s other goal in the first 45 minutes. Werner scored two goals in two minutes as he latched onto assists from Emil Forsberg and André Silva. He then turned provider for Silva before grabbing his hattrick after another beautiful assist from Forsberg.

Leipzig had 21 shots in total during the first half, with seven of those on target. Leipzig also hit the post twice during the first 45 minutes. While Teutonia had no shots on target during the first half, they did show great promise and even defended well before Werner’s 19th minute opener.

The second half:

Leipzig needed less than ten minutes of the second half to grab their fifth goal of the game as Silva grabbed his brace,. Forsberg, who created so many chances during the first half, finally got a goal to his name in the second. The Swedish international produced a cheeky backheel flick to put Leipzig 6-0 up. Tjorben Uphoff had Teutonia’s first chance of the whole game when he tried to chip the ball into the back of the net from a corner, but his effort lacked any power and was easily saved. Maik Łukowicz then missed a chance for a consolation goal from close range. The striker couldn’t copy Forsberg’s backheel flick and instead awkwardly lobbed the ball over the bar.

Christopher Nkunku could have also grabbed three goals in the game but couldn’t beat Yannick Zummack in the Teutonia goal with two of his attempts. Despite the massive scoreline, Zummack made 13 saves in the game and kept the score to single digits.

Nkunku eventually grabbed one goal to make it 7-0. Dani Olmo rounded off the scoring with Leipzig’s eighth goal in the 90th minute as they moved on to the next round of the DFB-Pokal.
