  • Bruno Fernandes has revealed his unusual pre-match superstition he carries out before taking to the pitch for Manchester United
  • The 27-year-old Man United superstar believes his pre-game ritual gives him the psychological edge
  • The Portugal international appears to have found his mojo, scoring the match-winning goal for United against Southampton

From the 1998 victorious French team kissing goalkeeper Fabien Barthez’s shaved head before kick-off to Adrain Mutu wearing his underwear inside-out, footballers resort to various rituals ahead of their games.

The urge and desperation to win games usually lead to pre-match traditions in the hope that it will give them a slight advantage on the pitch.

And it comes as little surprise that stop-gap Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes has his own form of pre-match ritual which he believes brings the best out of him.

According to the attacker, he has several more pragmatic pre-match dos and don’ts including blocking any form of communication when he enters the team bus in order to stay focused.

“I like to do breakfast or lunch – depends on the time of the game. Something I always do is speak with my kids and my wife before we leave the hotel because after when I go on the bus I don’t text anyone, I don’t answer phones, so I like to be focused on the game after that and when you get to Old Trafford for me it is game on from there." Fernandes told the club's website via Squawka.

But there is one rather bizarre one that really catches the eye:

“That is one of the superstitions and the other one is I always enter on the pitch with the left foot [first] that is something that I always do, something that I believe can help me in some way. Not to get a better performance but to be myself.”

Bruno Fernandes demands more from Man United teammates after back-to-back wins

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester United's stand-in captain Bruno Fernandes has asked his Manchester United teammates to be consistent in the Premier League.

Fernandes is slowly rediscovering his form after starring in Manchester United wins against Liverpool and Southampton this week.

He was at hand to score the lone goal against Southampton in Saturday's early kickoff as United picked its second successive win of the season under Erik ten Hag.
