  • Ajax forward Brian Brobbey has revealed he declined the chance to sign for Premier League side Manchester United after former boss Erik ten Hag tried to sign him
  • Ten Hag brought Brobbey back to the Johan Cruyff Arena for the second half of last season, where he scored seven goals in 11 league matches
  • Despite Ten Hag's failure to snap Brobbey, the Dutch manager has landed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and now Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro with a deal for Brobbey's Ajax teammate Antony on the horizon

Brian Brobbey has explained why he opted to return to Ajax Amsterdam ahead of an opportunity to work with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Brobbey worked with the current Man United boss at Ajax while on loan from RB Leipzig with the Dutch manager relishing an opportunity of continuing their working relationship at Old Trafford.

However, the 20-year-old forward opted to return to his old stomping grounds - Ajax - following the expiration of his stint with Leipzig.

"Erik also wanted to work with me again, he texted me once to see if I was open to it. But I thanked him nicely and told him I wanted to go back to Ajax. My friends are here, Ajax’s playing style… it just wasn’t finished yet."

Erik ten Hag makes bold statement about restoring Man United back to its glory days

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag is unperturbed by the club's poor start to the season, stressing his intentions of restoring the Red Devils to their glory days.

Ten Hag, who is convinced he will make United great again, has been given a baptism of fire to the club's new reality.

Defeats in his first two Premier League outings - 2-1 home loss to Brighton and a humbling defeat at the hands of Brentford has left United at the foot of the league standings.
