FootballThomas Tuchel Lists Everything that Went Wrong for Chelsea in Crushing Defeat to Leeds
- A couple of defensive howlers led to Chelsea’s crushing defeat to Leeds United
- Thomas Tuchel said after the game that ‘everything that could have went wrong did’
- The Blues boss says his side had to travel to Leeds by bus and that hampered their performance
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel blamed a number of factors for his side’s crushing 3-0 defeat to Leeds on Sunday, August 21.
As far as the overall balance of play is concerned, it was the Blues, who spent £170m in summer transfers, who orchestrated their own downfall.
Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy miscontrolled a backpass to allow Brenden Aaronson the easiest of finishes for the first goal, before Rodrigo punished Raheem Sterling’s mistake after the England man gave away a free kick.
The league was confirmed after Jack Harrison scored from a neat touch by Rodrigo.

After the game, Tuchel told BBC Sport:
"Everything that can go wrong, did go wrong.”
"It started yesterday. We had no plane to arrive so we came on the bus. The players could fly but for the coaching staff it was a long ride on the bus.
"It continued today. We lost the game in the first 20 minutes, where we were clearly better and had huge chances. A lot of touches in the box but we miss the target and do not take what we deserve.
Chelsea ended the game with 10 men after Kalidou Koulibaly saw red for a second bookable offence late on.
"We then stopped doing what we were doing good and it was even for 15 minutes and in those we gave two presents.” Tuchel added.

NBAMan City fight from 2 goals down to draw at Newcastle
In the other game on Sunday, Manchester City and Newcastle United treated fans to a six-goal thriller at St James’ Park.
City went ahead through Ilkay Gundogan, but it was the Magpies who had the brighter end to the first half as they turned the game around through Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson.
It was 3-1 in the second half as Kieran Trippier struck a flawless free kick, but the champions would not be beaten that easily as Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva found the net in a span of four minutes to restore parity.
