  • Leeds United vs Chelsea Premier League meeting saw the Blues taste their first defeat of the new season
  • Goals from Brendan Aaronson, Rodrigo Moreno, and Jack Harrison were enough to condemn Chelsea to a comprehensive defeat
  • Leeds now sit second on the Premier League standings with seven points, two points behind leaders Arsenal

Chelsea have picked their first defeat of the new season following their 3-0 humbling defeat at the hands of Leeds United on Sunday, August 21.

The Blues were hoping to return to winning ways during their trip to Elland Road, having dropped points during last weekend's 2-2 fiery draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite missing Patrick Bamford's and Liam Cooper's services, Leeds, who were nearly relegated last season, proved too hot to handle for Chelsea.

The Blues had the earliest chance to score through Raheem Sterling, but his goal in the 15th minute of the tie was ruled for an offside.

How Leeds United sunk Chelsea

The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, with Brendan Aaronson handing Leeds the lead after he dispossessed Edouard Mendy to tap into an empty net.

Rodrigo Moreno doubled the advantage four minutes later, beating Reece James to the ball to flick it across Mendy from a well-floated free-kick.

The home side picked from where they left in the second half of the match, with Jack Harrison taking the game beyond the west Londoners in the 69th minute after diverting the ball home from close range.

Things went from bad to worse for Thomas Tuchel's charges after they were reduced to 10 men in the closing stages of the match following Kalidou Koulibaly's red card.

The match finished in a 3-0 defeat for the 2021 Champions League winners, with Leeds' comfortable win firing them to second on the standings.
